Zakonna Mavid has recently turned two years old, Horah!

Last year I wrote that:

"Our hearts beat 35 million times per year. The small size of the organ never seems to hinder its productiveness. Its sheer willpower to flourish and bloom like poppies on the battlefield, beat by beat, carries us on and on. So like our heart, Zakonna Mavid shall beat on, at full pace, 35 million times per year."

And that we did. The Devil truly did work harder.

The Alchemist concluded in January and was a personal high stylistically for the brand. As mentioned in the 1 Year Anniversary post, I battled (and still do) with the concept of hope. The Alchemist was originally The Failed Alchemist, a poem of failure, a literature wave of a white flag. Mid-year I reflected on the piece with a different outlook - that hope existed.

I saw that hope bud and bloom in 2022. Zakonna Mavid has yet to truly turn into a prized black rose, but flower it has.

FOOL'S GAME X RED LIGHT was unearthed and saw the light in late October. This collection was released later than I intended due to an immense workload during the spring-summer of that year.

FOOL'S GAME X RED LIGHT, is ZM's first Bridal collection (or at least its genesis). As a designer and creative, I tend to lean on my romanticism of the world around me. With my writing, all romance or suggestions to it are entirely metaphorical. However, in mid-2022 I began to reflect, revel, and then relish my own romantic experiences - the piece I wrote was close to 3,000 words, overflowing with verses of romance. That slur of scripture gave birth to FOOL'S GAME X RED LIGHT.

A single collection made of two halves.

Fool's Game: A take on the chess move "Fool's mate" - reaching checkmate in the fewest possible moves. This shies away from my typical inward-focused writing style and has a direct look at the other person within a relationship and the way in which I present myself. It is void of emotion.

It's structured, cold and hard.

Red Light: This is the complete opposite of Fool's mate, it's a confessional of guilt.

It's a metaphorical shred of armour and discussion with your self-reflection.

The collection will be continued to be released throughout 2023.

2022 saw a great return in clientelle for the brand - for that I, The Devil will forever be at your feet.

• More custom, bespoke designs have begun to be a main part of ZM's business model and make up a large portion of our sales.

• Diversifying. Throughout the latter end of the year, ZM obtained a contract to complete the costumes for the stage production of The Six (Teen Edition), which was an immensely fulfilling opportunity. (Imagery to be released soon).

• As I speak to you, in this love letter of devotion and appreciation, ZM is currently commencing a custom order that has the potential to help the company to gain momentum - which is most exciting.

Despite the setbacks, and the slower pace of releases, Zakonna Mavid has flourished and long may that continue. The Devil furies on...
